ROOKIE COURSE

We run beginners – or Rookie – courses regularly throughout the year.
Whether you have never even put a pair of skates on, or you’re a competant skater interested in trying roller derby, we’ll teach you the basic skills you need during the 11-week course.

The course is suitable for those wanting to play roller derby and also those interested in becoming an on-skates official. No experience necessary and we can lend you kit if you don’t have your own.

Over the 11 weeks you’ll learn the skating skill essential to becoming a roller derby player or referee; stability, stopping, changing direction and, most importantly, how to fall safely.

Once you have mastered the fundamentals, you can progress to intermediate roller derby training or train to become an on-skates official.

We will also cover the basic rules or the game including game structure, the principles or point scoring, what the penalties are and what it means with the referee waves their arms at you.

Course runs 2pm to 4pm every Sunday for 11 weeks from 18th May.

Kit hire available* for a deposit of £40, refunded on its safe return.

Course costs £55

If the cost of the course is a barrier to your participation, please reach out to us.

We have options available to ensure that roller derby is accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

*We have a wide selection of kit available to hire, however due to demand and limited sizing, we cannot guarantee to have a set of skates for absolutely everyone.
